A delicious moong dal sweet
Preparation time: 45 minutes
Makes: 15 pieces
You will need
1 cup ( 100 g ) moong dal
1 cup ( 100 ml ) water
1/2 teaspoon cooking oil
115 g ( 1 cup + 1 tablespoon ) sugar
3 tablespoon ghee ( 1 tablespoon - 3 teaspoon )
2 pinches cardamom powder
1 steel thali

Method
Wash and clean moong dal. Soak in 1 cup water for 15 minutes. Add 1/2 teaspoon cooking oil and pressure cook for 20 minutes ( reduce the heat to low after 2 nd whistle and cook for 15 minutes on a low heat ). You will get a thick mixture of cooked moong dal without dal stock.
In a wide frying pan or iron kadai, heat 1 tablespoon ghee. Add cooked moong dal mixture and saute on a low heat for 5 minutes.

Add sugar ( 115 g ) and 1 tablespoon ghee. Mix it well. Cover with a lid and cook on a low heat for 10 minutes. Stir occasionally.
Open the lid and stir continuously on a low heat for 15 minutes ( or till the moong dal mixture leaves from the sides of the pan / kadai and also you will get a nice aroma. Sprinkle cardamom powder and mix well.
Grease a steel thali with 1 teaspoon ghee. Spread moong mixture evenly with a flat spatula. Add remaining 2 teaspoon ghee over it and spread evenly. Keep aside to cool. Once it cools you can serve directly from the steel thai also or cut the halwa into desired shape and size only after it fully cools to normal temperature. You can also add chopped dry fruits.
