Mulak Ulli Chutney / Chammanthi

A tasty & spicy chutney with dried red chillies and shallots. Best combination with Idli, Dosa, Boiled tapioca (Kappa) , Kanji (Rice porridge) …

Serves: 2

You will need

6 dried red chillies

½ teaspoon oil

10 shallots (chuvannulli / sambar onions), cut into 2 slices

½ teaspoon salt

Method

Heat oil in an iron kadai / frying pan. Add dried red chillies and fry till crisp on a low to medium heat (approximate frying time 8 – 10 minutes). Remove from the pan and keep aside.

Heat ½ teaspoon oil and fry sliced onions till light pink in color on a low to medium heat.

Transfer the fried red chillies into a mixer bowl and make a paste.

Then add salt and shallow fried shallot slices. Make a smooth paste without adding water. Serve chutney with Idli, Dosa, Boiled tapioca, Kanji
