This weekend, we went for our regular outing. Spencer Plaza was thought of to be the right place. We reached there by 6.30 pm. The whole place was dark and the Security at the gate informed us that there is no power supply within the complex.
What next? Where to go ?
We took a detour and ventured to Sri Mithai off Spur tank road, Chennai – which is their main branch.
My comments:
This joint mainly serves the North Indian Snacks. One gets a wide variety of Chatts – Bhel Puri, Pani Puri, Dahi Puri, Sev Puri etc, Bread Channa, Vada Pav, Pav Bhaji, Rajasthani Dahi Vada, Khandvi, Samosa, Kachori , Dhokla etc which are hot and spicy. Apart from this, Various choices of sandwiches ( cheese, vegetable) were also available. Hot and fully puffed Channa-Batura was a main attraction ( my son was having fun deflating the puffed batura). A wide variety of sweets, Pedas ( north Indian and Bengali), Badam milk was also available.
Dhokla
Samosa with two chutneys
Ambiance : The crowd is decent and mostly north Indian. There is ample space inside the building ( air con space) as well as outside ( non air con - open space). There is enough space for car parking. A wash room is also available. There are enough service personnel ( friendly and courteous). One has to pay at the counter and collect the various dishes -Self service ( in fact this was the only minor problem there at the counters - as we Indian do not follow queue system and like to needlessly push each other).
VADA PAV
Bhel puri
Long gulab jamun
Taste and Pricing : Everything was so tasty. I felt the price was just right ( slightly biased to the higher side). We had Bhel Puri, Samosa, Vada-Pav, Dhokla, Channa Batura, Badam Milk, Long gulab Jamun. The price range for most of the item is from Rs. 12 to 20 except Channa Batura which cost Rs.40 a piece.
Fully puffed chhole batura ...
Suggestion : Only suggestion we got is that they should serve tea / coffee. Think how great it would be to wash down the loads of sweet and spicy food with a hot coffee. We then had to go to another outlet to get this satisfaction.
I highly recommend this place for an evening outing . Enjoy – and let me know your experience.
