Karnataka Style Coconut Chutney
A delicious chutney, goes well with Neer dosa / Dosa / Idli / Vada … Recipe from Karnataka cuisine by Ranee Vijaya Kuttaiah !!
Serves:2 - 3
Ingredients
5 tablespoon grated coconut
2 garlic cloves
1 big green chilli, chopped
2 teaspoon tamarind juice (soak 1 teaspoon tamarind in 4 teaspoon water for half an hour and strain tamarind juice through a fine sieve) or 1/2 teaspoon thick tamarind paste
½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
2 teaspoon dry roasted urad dal (black gram lentil)
2 tablespoon water
Method
In an iron kadai / frying pan, gently dry roast urad dal until color changes / fragrant and crisp on a medium heat (approximate dry roasting time 7 minutes).
Transfer all the ingredients into a small mixer bowl and make a smooth and thick paste. This chutney is very tasty if it is thick in consistency.
For seasoning:
1 teaspoon oil
½ teaspoon mustard seeds
3 curry leaves
1 dried red chilli, halved
Method
Heat oil in a small pan. Add mustard seeds. When the crackle, add curry leaves and halved red chilli. Saute for 2 minutes until crisp. Pour the seasoning over chutney and serve as side dish with Neer dosa / Dosa / Idli / Vada ..
