Bengali style Tomato Raisins Chutney

Kuch Khatta .... Kuch Meetha .... Kuch Teekha too !!!! Good combination with Biryanis / Pulao / Luchi / Puri (Chuyney is not a main dish).

Serves: 2 - 3

You will need

2 teaspoon oil
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
2 red chillies, broken
2 tomatoes (pick well ripe), finely chopped
2 tablespoons raisins (or 2 tablespoons chopped dates (khajjur)
3/4 teaspoon Kashmiri red chilli powder
1 tablespoon jaggery, melted and sieved
1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)


Heat oil in a pan. Add bay leaf. Saute for 1 minute till fragrant. Add mustard seeds. When they crackle, add broken chillies. Saute for 1 minute.

Add chopped tomatoes and stir well.

Add Kashmiri red chilli powder, melted and sieved jaggery, raisins and salt to taste. Mix all the ingredients well. Do not add water when cooking. Cover with a lid and cook on a low heat for 10 - 12 minutes or until the chutney mixture thickens and water dries up.

Serve as a side dish with Biryani / Pulao / Luchi / Puri.

Thats a very different chutney.. But looks so inviting and tangy
