Besan on Toast
Basic recipe adapted from GoodHousekeeping Magazine
This is an excellent protein rich dish, and it is very tasty.
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Serves: 2
You will need
4 slices of bread ( use multi grain / brown bread / whole wheat bread )
5 tablespoon besan ( gram flour / kadala maav / chone pitti )
1 onion
1 tomato
1 small green chilli, deseeded
1 tablespoon chopped fresh coriander leaves
Salt to taste ( or 1/2 teaspoon )
1 tablespoon oil
Method
Finely chop the onion, tomato, green chilli and coriander leaves.
Mix the besan with the chopped ingredients and salt to taste.
Add a little water ( 1 - 2 tablespoon ) to make a smooth, thick batter.
Toast the bread. Spread the besan mixture evenly on one side of the slice.
Heat a oil in tawa / frying pan and place the batter applied side in the oil. Cook on a low heat for a few minutes until golden color. Plain side need not be fried.
Cut the slices into triangles ( warm the bread knife a little before slicing the bread ). Serve hot with tomato ketchup or chutneys.
