Bread Upma

Bread Upma

Easy & tasty dish for breakfast or serve as an evening snack

Serves: 2

You will need

1 tablespoon oil

1 teaspoon mustard seeds

1/2 teaspoon jeera ( cumin seeds )

1/2 teaspoon urad dal

1 green chilli, slit lengthwise

6 curry leaves

2 pinches turmeric powder

1 onion ( small in size ), finely sliced ( or 1 tablespoon )

1 carrot, finely grated (optional)

6 wholewheat or Brown bread or normal bread slices, cut into very small pieces

1/2 teaspoon salt ( or to taste )


Cut bread slices into very small pieces.

In a wide pan / kadai, heat oil. Add mustard seeds. When they splutter, add cumin seeds, urad dal, green chilli and curry leaves. Saute for 2 - 3 minutes or until fragrant.

Add 2 pinches turmeric powder and stir well for 2 minutes.

Add finely sliced onion and fry till golden color.

Add finely grated carrot (optional) and mix well. Fry on a low heat for 5 minutes.

Add bread pieces and mix all the ingredients well. Adjust salt to taste.

Cover with a lid and cook on a low heat for 5 minutes.

Open the lid and stir continuously for 2 - 3 minutes until bread pieces well mixed with all the spices. Serve hot with tea / coffee / or with fruit juice.
