Tomato Thayir Pachadi / Thakkali Thayir Pachadi – A tasty side dish with rice or can be used as a great dip. No added onion and garlic. Recipe form Vegetarian Samayal of South India by Viji Varadarajan !!!
Serves: 2 – 3
2 tomatoes, medium size
1 cup water
200 ml / 1 cup curd, beat well
¼ teaspoon salt
Heat a cup of water and boil the tomatoes whole until tender and soft. Drain out water. Keep aside to cool for 15 minutes . Make a puree in a small mixer bowl.
Microwave method – In a microwave safe bowl, microwave tomatoes (poke tomatoes) with a cup water for 4 minutes on high powder / heat ( 750 W). Drain out water. Keep aside to cool for 15 minutes and then make a puree in a small mixer bowl.
Transfer tomato puree in a serving bowl (@ normal temperature). Mix it with beaten curd and salt until all the ingredients well combined.
For the seasoning:
1 teaspoon oil
½ teaspoon mustard seeds
¼ teaspoon jeera (cumin seeds)
2 curry leaves
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. When they crackle, add jeera and fry for 30 seconds. Add curry leaves and fry for 1 minute. Pour this seasoning over pachadi and serve as a side dish with rice.
