Rawa ( Sooji ) Kozhukatta

Rawa ( Sooji ) Kozhukkatta

A very tasty breakfast dish, goes well with coconut chutney, sambar & tomato chutney... Must try

Makes: 13

You will need

1 cup ( 100 g ) rawa ( sooji )
80 g coconut, grated
1 1/2 cup ( 150 ml ) water
1/2 teaspoon ( or to taste )
1/2 teaspoon oil ( to grease )

For seasoning:

1 tablespoon oil
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds ( jeera )
1 teaspoon channa dal ( kadala parippu )
1 spring curry leaves
2 red chillies, broken

Method

Heat oil in a wide pan / kadai. Add mustard seeds. When they begin to pop, add cumin seeds ( jeera ), channa dal, curry leaves and broken red chillies. Saute for 5 - 6 minutes on a low heat till fragrant and golden color.

Add 150 ml ( please use same measurement cup for rawa and water ) water and salt to taste. Cover with a lid and cook on a medium heat until the water boils.

Add rawa and grated coconut. Mix all the ingredients well and cook again for 5 - 6 minutes on a low heat or until the water dries up and rawa - coconut mixture thickens.

Allow the mixture to cool for 10 - 15 minutes.

Divide the mixture into 13 portions and make small lemon sized balls.

Arrange these lemon sized balls on a greased steel bowl and steam in a steamer / pressure cooker ( without weight ) for 12 - 15 minutes on a medium heat.

Serve hot with coconut chutney / sambar / tomato chutney.
