Malabar Style Dates and
Raisins Chutney
A tasty thick chutney,
goes well with biryanis / pulaos / parathas … Recipe reference from The Suriani Kitchen by Lathika George.
Makes: ½ cup / 4 oz
Ingredients
12 dates, remove seeds and chop fine
3 tablespoon raisins
2 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon oil
4 cloves garlic, chopped
½ teaspoon chopped fresh ginger
1 teaspoon red chilli powder
½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
Method
In a small bowl, soak
the dates with raisins in vinegar
for 2 hours.
Heat oil in a small pan. Add chopped garlic and ginger and fry for 1 minute. Switch off the heat and add red
chilli powder and salt. Mix gently.
Transfer these ingredients into a small mixer bowl and make
a smooth paste / chutney with soaked raisins and dates. Do not add water when
making a paste in mixer. It should be thick chutney. Consume after 2 – 3 hours. Then the chutney
will absorb all the flavours. Serve as side dish with biryanis / pulao /
parathas ..
